New developments…

So as many of you have noticed, there haven’t been updates in a while. That’s mostly because the current list of things I’m working on involves a lot of backend work. If you’ve seen my previous posts, I’ve talked about re-working the city generation system to allow for more variations, and so that’s what I’ve been doing.

The old city system had about a dozen different ’tiles’ that were used to create the city….a couple building tiles, a few roads, grassy areas, rivers, etc. The new system now has over 100 tiles (60+ of which were shown in previous posts), and the cities generated with them are much more robust.

Now, I haven’t finished updating the city generator yet, and there’s still more work to be done. In the below image you can see some city layouts generated with the new system, and they’re fairly square and uniform. The next step will be getting more variety in the overall shape of the map, as well as more variety in the placements of the various city zones. Regardless, you can still see how huge and detailed the cities will be.

Hey Tyson I have a question about the gameplay, when you die will you respond at a checkpoint because that would be awesome. The only thing that I did not like about project zomboid is that you die and have to start all over again

Dude there are respawns, exept you could kill your former self who is a zombie so you could get ur stuff back(I think)

    Just some suggestions!
    -Survival mode/Hardcore mode! (1 life)
-Characters! (At least 3 would be AWESOOME!!…)
-Not exactly multiplayer!—> To have the possibility of adding friends and sending gifts to their world to help them! 😀
-1 use poweups?—>Expensive, only use once, Ex.: Air strike (radio), companion (a box with a shooting robot), slow motion (a pill) etc…
-Arcade mode—> A collection of endless “games” you unlock with coins maybe?:
·InfiniteBox/Zombox endless: Just the character and a bunch of zombies.
·BoxZombies/zombox reversed: You are the zombie. Kill NPC’s and get guns sometimes.
-Game machine (in-game): Play a pixealted game in a zombie apocalipse.
-Strange pill: It makes the player go crazy for some seconds.
-Challenges: A type of game with some change:
·Claustrophobia: You can’t get in buildings.
·Peace lover: You can’t use guns
    Stupid suggestions!
    -1st person mode
-Zombie (when you die there is a chance to become a zombie and you have the possibility to go killing NPC’s >:D)

I hope you use them someday! thanks for reading 🙂
and sorry for my bad english too… I’m learning…

Looking cool. Regarding city generation, it’d be cool to allow users to change certain options that’ll affect the way its populated.

  17. Chris says:

Awsome! Hoping this game comes out soon I’ve been waiting 3 years for the game:/

But try estimate the release date pls:)

    • Tyson Ibele says:

You can’t have been waiting 3 years, since I haven’t even been working on it for 2! 😉

  18. ^.^ says:

You can not give a release date?

  19. Rene says:

Okay I’ve been holding back for awhile and decided to check out the site again I’m delighted with the progress you’ve made 🙂
other than that I have a suggestion :if you ever need support and or funding you should try a kick-starter event because I know for sure that all the screen shots and updates would be sufficient enough for you to get at LEAST 500$(although I am very sure you could get much, much,MUCH MORE) i would personally donate 40$

If you don’t like the idea …oh well, and keep up the good work! 😉 on both the game and your work

  20. Tec says:

Can you put this on Xbox Live Arcade? Thatd be sweet. A lot of people would rather play games on their tv rather than a phone

  21. Magic Muffin says:

How are you planning on telling the story, if any in a survival game?
I.e. text logs & other survivors.

  22. Nathan says:

wait are all those islands gonna be on one map?or are they separate islands on separate maps?

    • Tyson Ibele says:

This is an example of 6 different maps.

      • Nathan says:

        Oh

  23. Anonymous says:

Can you, if not already done, make an in-game craftable map to carry aroun and help on explorations

  24. Tyson Ibele says:

    Hey guys,

Was in France for a little over a week…back in Vancouver now! Expect some updates soon!

  25. Anonymous says:

Lol, dude, no more updates, release it, you have the attention from the audience, don’t loose that

  26. Vincent says:

    Hahahahahah

  27. Br0n5t3r says:

I honestly cannot wait any longer I’m itching for a good zombie survival game where you actually have to collect supplies, ammo, and survive all in an open world, it’s going to be great 😀

  28. *o* says:

    eXELENT

  29. Ryan says:

Hey, Tyson. I’ve seen all of your YouTube videos and have kept up with these updates, but I have an idea. Throughout your videos I notice that you walk by most zombies; zombies see and attack you. Now while this would fit into more of a hack and slash sort of game, this would make it mindless zombie cutting/shooting while it could be avoided. Now I’m pretty sure I have seen you lose zombies and some not even see you, but why not add a simple button to the HUD that would send you into a crouch walk. Of course it seems easy for me because I’m not developing a game, but I’m trying to give you advice considering this game is basically Day Z for the iPhone, and Day Z is definitely blew up fast. I think that this would turn off certain gamers because stealth is an option I’d definitely want to use, and its a bit more realistic imho. Anyways I hope you respond, and consider my descision. I’m loving the way the game is coming along and I wish you luck with your future progression with it.

    • Tyson Ibele says:

      Hey Ryan,

Crouching is an interesting idea, although I’d like to keep the HUD as minimal as possible so I don’t think I’d add another button for it. Can you think of a way to allow the player to crouch without needing another on-screen button? Maybe if you can think of a creative way to ‘enable’ that while playing it could be something I’d implement….similar to the way in minecraft you double-tap your movement key to run.

      Hmm…

  31. Phredd says:

Every time it takes this long for a new update, I worry that the project has died

  32. Br0n5t3r says:

Just imagine if he said: Ok, you guys have waited long enough I have submitted the game to the App Store I will release free updates till the game is completely finished. Now it’s only a matter of time until the game is accepted!

  33. Phredd says:

Hey, not to shamelessly promote a game, but if anyone wants to play something almost as awesome while we wait for this you could give $25 to Sandswept and play The Dead Linger, its getting awesomer and awesomer

    • Br0n5t3r says:

That game is way too under developed to be asking for money, it’s like warZ the game is in very early Alpha and the generation is bad, every 3 houses there are an exact set of copied housed beside it, This game would maybe have more potential if it went for something newer and maybe didn’t release so early, but in the end it all comes down to opinion

    • Nathan says:

Hate to break it to you phredd but I got like a list of things why dead linger is even WORSE then war z

      #1 combat is boring

#2 surviving is boring in the game

#3 all zombies look the same

      #4 there is no weather

#5 there is no RPGs elements like leveling up and stuff

#7 map is extremely unrealistick as for miles the land is abnormally flat

#8 there is no guts or limbs flying when you attack zombies

#9 there is no rag doll

#10 the developers released it too soon unlike Tyson who decided to make his game FLAWLESS and work extremely hard on it unlike Sandswept who instantly released it once the trees were put in

I don’t want any hard feelings but at least Warz was worth the money
